Art Galleries in Hong Kong

November 24th, 2007

I was in Hong Kong for works and over the weekend I managed to visit some friends. Lam Tung Pang, the pseudo Tin-Tin Hong Kong artist, is exhibiting at the OSAGE gallery with other Asian artists under the title, “Some Rooms”. It is my first time visiting the gallery located in an industrial building in the run down district at Kwun Tong. Converted into a white gallery space with high ceiling and monstrous space - all you can expect in Hong Kong standard - the space reminds me somewhere like the 798 Art village at Beijing but comparatively, OSAGE is much well established since there are total six galleries in Asia to provide artists a platform to tour their works. Quite impressive!

On the other hand, our nostalgic “hand-make crusade” designer and friend, Benedict Leung, introduced me to a new comer in the field. HULAHOOP is an artist-run gallery located in a peaceful residential corner founded by Lulu Ngie and Firenze Lai. They are currently exhibition their first solo show as the gallery’s inaugural exhibition.
