Fred Scott Book Launch: On Altering Architecture

December 12th, 2007

Throughout years of adapting from pen and paper to keyboard and screen, from G3 to G4 powerbook, Professor Fred Scott, our Golden Lane neighbour and best friend, proudly launched and presented his book, On Altering Architecture, at the Architecture Association on 12 December. Family, friends and many Fred’s students were at the launch party to celebrate and enjoy this very moment. Guests are chatting and catching up while waiting for the speech by the author. People can’t wait and snap up for the first glimpse. Clare and I didn’t aware that and kept on chatting. As a result, all 50 copies were sold out in minutes so we MISSED OUT the chance to buy one! So we have to order in the reception and have to wait a few weeks…shame!

Here the review:

“Bringing together interior design and architectural theory, this exciting new text looks at the common practices of building alteration, reconsidering established ideas and methods, to initiate the creation of a theory of the interior or interventional design. Fred Scott examines in-depth case studies of interventional design from architectural history across the world – examples discussed are taken from the States, Europe and Japan. Scott expanding and builds on the ideas of Viollet-le-Duc, structuralism and other ideas to layout criteria for an art of intervention and change. Introducing and reviewing the theory of conservation, Scott draws on the philosophy of conservation, preservation and restoration, as well as exploring related social and political issues. For those in professions of architecture and interiors, town planners, and students in architecture and art schools, On Altering Architecture forms a body of thought that can be aligned and compared with architectural theory.”

P.S. Stella is so gorgeous and charming Kate certainly can’t hold hostess Buffy steady that night. Danny, we guess your BIG plan is no longer a secret, isn’t it? ;-)  It’s such a memorable night!
