Elsie’s creation, A WhiteCrow Concept Shop (白烏鴉 設計.風格.生活概念店) was born in Taipei in June 2007 (www.awhitecrow.com). For Elsie and us, we share a similar vision about making a gallery+store. We have been discussing a lot throughout the time while she was putting everything together. She has such a strong idea that very well shape her dream so most of the time we were more sharing our experience to support her.
This christmas, I met Elsie again in Taipei and had a discussion about the future of gallery+store. The idea of ‘crossing boundaries’ is very common in design community but by nature is often unclear for most customers whom were use to standard commercial environment and pattern. People don’t know how to grasp the space like A WhiteCrow and Exhibit. I still remember when we first started, people walked in and asked ‘what is this, a shop or a temporary installation?’ Even for some we can feel they were scare to come in because of the ambiguity of the space.
More works need to be done to shape the idea and make it works. Atta Girls! We shall make it works.
