Born in Austria and currently living in London, Maria has gained her education in Digital media art + design with a BA at Central Saint Martins and MSc at Goldsmiths. Her professional experience includes PR in Fashion, editorial assistant as well as freelance fashion image-making. This background fits in well with EXHIBT’s emphasis on cross-disciplinary projects.

Since joining the EXHIBIT team earlier this year, there was much exchange of ideas, surrounded by the unique modernist architecture in Red Blue Yellow and Black that is the Golden Lane Estate. We defined the idea of EXHIBIT as a laboratory where collaborations with creative practitioners lead to shows that examine the notion of exhibition, art work and product, outside of the constraints of a commercial gallery. We support the artist and designer in creating a stimulating show inhibiting the Empty Space Gallery in the basement, and possibly spilling out into the gallery window and ground floor. The ground floor also serves as gallery-shop, featuring artefacts from current and past exhibition for sale, building an archive of past projects.

The challenge for the artist is to incorporate this way of thinking into their practice, along the lines of EXHIBIT’s idea of an alternative in cultural production and consumption. Each creative practitioner finds their own expression through the thin veil that divides contemporary art and design practice.
