After the fun of Ring of Gold, our next playground features a charmingly simple tea hut in EXHIBIT gallery. This 2-week event aims to reacquaint us with the simple pleasures of tea, cake and good company.
Artist, Camilla Brueton, will be serving tea and homemade cake in exchange for your stories and conversation. Bring a friend, play cards or chess, surf the net using our Wi-Fi* or just drop in for tea and a chat.
Take an hour out of your day to join Camilla’s Drawing Hour and sketch around Golden Lane Estate. All ages’ welcome. Materials provided. No need to book, just turn up at 2:00 - 3:00pm Thursdays - Fridays.
Camilla also invites you to show us your favourite mug. Whether it’s an elegant Wedgewood china cup or an old souvenir from holiday, bring it along and have it photographed for our MUG-A-THON hall of fame.
Camilla will talk to Director of the 20th Century Society, Catherine Croft and Joint Head of Research and Futures at CABE, Elanor Warwick on the subjects of public and private space in high density housing and the influence architects have over this. The talk is a closed event but will be filmed and posted on EXHIBIT website for public view.
About the Project
Societea is a social tea hut and gathering run by artist Camilla Brueton, in collaboration with EXHIBIT gallery as part of THE SUPER ESTATE’s community event. Camilla has an interest in shared social and communal spaces. She is hoping to meet a wide range of people from the local area over a cup of tea, a slice of cake, or whilst drawing tour around the estate.
Over the next 11 months, Camilla’s SUPER ESTATE wider project will give the shape by exploring social space at Golden Lane, be it your outdoor garden, balcony, or interior, with a particular focus on the home. Through Societea, Camilla hopes to meet residents who would be happy to have their living rooms photographed as part of her Super Estate work, and particularly interested in meeting those living in the studio apartments.
