Societea by Camilla Brueton
13 August - 14 September 2009
Everyone loves a cup of tea, and this was certainly true of the numerous visitors who popped into the gallery over the past two weeks! Residents, families, local workers and even tourists couldn’t resist stopping by for a quick chat and slice of cake here at EXHIBIT.
Societea artist, Camilla Brueton, also ran one-hour public drawing sessions each day; the results of which can now be seen at the gallery as part of the exhibition.
The Mug-a-thon weekend events were equally popular. Local residents brought along their favourite mugs of all shapes and sizes! The ‘mug shots’ are now up on our Wall of Fame here at the gallery, and will be on display until 14th September. We also had some great stories behind them. For instance, one lady brought in her favourite work mug after being reunited with it unexpectedly.
After her beloved, and somewhat unusual mug shaped like a gothic skull, broke after four years, the chances of finding another were pretty slim. However the lady found another exactly the same, resting at the bottom of a fish tank and covered in slime! Whilst some of the favourite mugs held special memories for their owners, others simply provided the perfect sized-cup of tea each morning!
All in all Camilla’s exhibition and event were a great success; memories were shared, stories were told, and copious amounts of cake and tea were consumed! Many thanks to everyone who contributed their time, stories and mugs!
