Art . Design . People at the Golden Lane Estate

EXHIBIT is an on-going art and design experiment that aims to provoke awareness to design heritage of social housing with special focus on its ageing communities. It is based in the pivotal Golden Lane Estate in the City of London and inspired by this key modernist design of social housing development that symbolised the rebirth of the Barbican area from the rubble of the Blitz.

Founded in 2005 by two designer/architect residents of the estate with a passion for modernist architecture, community engagement and a background in inclusive design – EXHIBIT has rapidly established itself as an exciting centre for new directions set in art and design with social missions.

Each project EXHIBIT collaborates with artists and designers with inspiration from both the history of local community groups and the design heritage of architecture. Through delivering new ways of experiencing and engaging with exhibitions and creative co-design projects, we aim to inspire the public with a passion for exploring the cultural legacy of communal architecture and the communities it nurtures through arts; and make archives for the future.
