Quilts Never Sleep is an installation featuring the latest paintings and textile work by British artist, Liz Davies; alongside video installation by Dan Canyon in the basement. It is the second series of “Empty Space Eats Man” project originally curated by the artist.

This exhibition centres on round quilts made by Davis, which in turn are derived from her paintings. Davies recently began working in textiles, creating quilts out of large swatches of coloured cotton. It is a soft quilt to curl up in, an art piece to hang over furniture or when folded a beautiful cushion.

The quilts are individually designed and handmade by the artist, with 100% washable cotton. Davis’ paintings are made through a unique process of layering glaze developed by herself. Central to these paintings are the dead and live forms; ammonites, beetles and insects found by Davis in the baked earth of the garrigue in the south of France. In conjunction to the quilt display, the basement gallery projected a new film by Dan Canyon in a setting devised by OTUA Studio.

This body of work includes paintings, sound recordings and film, all of which are related to a fascination with the mystery of the ordinary.
