by its use of colour, compression and an impenetrability that refuses easy resolution. These beautiful landscapes are calming and serene, drawing the viewer in and allowing their imagination to work with the suggestion of latency.

Taken in different pockets around the world and on different camera formats, the images are united by the transience of a dreamscape. This very idea shifts in and out of each frame in varying strengths, a fleeting vision of another reality, layered onto a ghostly landscape.

Noel has an attentive eye for creating images through seeing what others would disregard, thus missing those moments of transience. The glare of the falling sun or the blurred speckling of stars intrigues the engaged observer and invites child-like wonder, discovering the world and seeing more than the obvious. Noel’s use of soft focus brings a poetic resonance to the colour work, reminiscent of a blurred retina, unable to see with clarity and definition. The unknown resides in the shadows.

The editioned images can be purchased at our online Collection.

22 Nov – 3 Dec 2011

Recommend on Facebook

Share with Stumblers

Tweet about it

Tell a friend

Landscapes 2008 – 2011 by Australian artist, Noel Mclaughlin, draws together a body of work united by its use of colour, compression and an impenetrability that refuses easy resolution.
