Villiers High School in Southall London invited Yanki to develop a series of design workshops aimed at engaging the students and teachers in a school improvement programme.

Working in collaboration with STBY and Brazilian designers: Paula Dib, Fernando Maculan, Renata Mendes, and Clara Gaggaro from the RCA Industrial Design Engineering, the team developed different methods of engagement to initiate student’s interest in the creative process.

One of the most successful exercises was called ‘Music and Drawing’ – here different types of music were played to stimulate the pupils response and they were encouraged to draw freely. A graffiti slowly emerged. After this warm-up exercise, the pupils began working together to design an event to express their personal message of ‘Peace’ to the world, enhancing relationships between them.

This project is one of the latest by the new design initiative, ‘Designing across boundaries’ developed by Yanki and Paula. The first experiment was initiated in Sept 2007.
