Heartlands is a community-led project by the Kerrier District Council in Pool, Cornwall, which is created to ensure social sustainability.

It consists of a recreation complex with a 7.5 hectare area of green space between Dundance Lane and Station Road around the historical Robinson shaft complex.

Yanki is commissioned by the Heartlands committee to generate ideas that will facilitate the design process of the project. The objectives were to explore, refine, and recommend support for both the design team and the local communities so that the they could effectively carry out the project with social inclusion. One of the key contributions is to introduce creative thinking to the consultation process and develop engaging methods to encourage active participation between different stakeholders.

Heartlands is anticipated to be completed by late 2012. More information can be found at www.theheartlandsproject.org.uk
